I have allocated a DDNAME with overriding RECFM=U and attempted to transfer from //DD:... But it failed. It appeared that FTP did a DYNALLOC INFO, found the attributes in the DSCB, and ignored those I specified. It's possibly catering to the novice user rather than the journeyman.
