Not the usual kind of answer, but you could try grc.com to supplement whatever you run from your end. His website has a free service that'll try to contact an IP address using various ports and tell you which ports replied, the idea being that the fewer ports that answer a random inquiry from the web, the better for your security. I normally think of it as useful for PCs, but what it tells you about a mainframe might be revealing.
