I was on the beta for this (hope it's OK to reveal that now!).  While DPF is 
not supported in the COBOL language itself, DPF is used (when available, by 
specifying the appropriate ARCH level) under the covers.

It's still not clear to me the situations when a business programmer would want 
an explicit field to be DFP instead of PD.  Perhaps someone can give a good 
example of such?
