I have received a pointer off-list (Thanks!)
to <https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/zos/2.5.0?topic=zos-data-set-file-system-dsfs>.

That's a topic in "UNIX System Services Planning".

o Again, a title likely to escape the attention of the end user ("Planning
ain't my job.")

o The entire content of the topic is:
Data Set File System (DSFS)
With z/OS Data Set File System (DSFS), z/OS UNIX applications can access data
sets by presenting
the data sets as a tree-structured file system that is mounted at mount point
/dsfs in the z/OS UNIX file system tree. A utility file system is used by DSFS
to contain POSIX information about the data sets accessed by applications to
assist in the presentation of data sets as a tree in the z/OS UNIX file system
space.

"POSIX" could mislead the reader to believe that DSFS is a POSIX-conformant
file system. The topic
should contain at least a hedge such as "with some restrictions."
