Yes, DCBDDNAM is repurposed; no  information is lost because of DCBTIOT (this 
was before XTIOT.)

unnessary after OPEN unless something goes wrong.

But the original DCB is restored by CLOSE.  Where is it kept in tnhe
meantime without using even more storage?
