I got a real kick, about 15 years ago, out of an email from a stranger who'd
seen something I'd posted years before and forgotten all about. The original
question, in 2006, was about writing some FTP functions in VBA to connect to a
mainframe. It happened I'd set up something like that for a client in
Minneapolis, so I described how it worked; it wasn't what the OP wanted, so we
dropped the subject and I forgot all about it.

A few years later someone ran across that discussion and asked for more
information. I dragged out the code (I never throw away code, at least not on
purpose) and sent it to him, with explanation. Programmers are almost always
eager to explain how clever we've been, and it's usually to a completely
indifferent audience. So it was pretty cool when someone contacted me out of
the blue looking for more information.

But does anything on the internet really go away? I can imagine people 500
years in the future examining my own posts and info. So here's a "Hello" to
them from Tom in the ancient year of 2023.
