The last 9.4 upgrade I did, I ended up transferring it to my desktop, and then from there to a ZFS on z/OS. The problem then was that the direct to z/OS method was broken on the SAS end and I would imagine that they probably fixed it in the past 5 months since that time, but it wasn't a real hardship to download it to the PC first.
The rest of the install was identical to installing any of the previous 9.4 releases for the past several years. If you have any specific questions, feel free to send me a note. I had the impression when I was working with SAS though that they no longer had much in the way of z/OS (or any mainframe) experienced people, but it might just have been a bad day or that the mainframe people were out sick.
