I would want to include some RAS considerations such as:
- mean time to failure;
- mean time to repair;
- availability of local service personnel.

I am looking for input on what I need to look for when making a decision
between vendors for solutions in the area of tape and dasd for the
mainframe.

I understand capacity, current and growth, ease of migration from one to the
other, speed, replication, de-dup, and compaction.

But what other metrics should I look at or include in the analysis? Are
there RMF reports I should be using or MXG?
Any place with a decent checklist or metrics available?

The mainframe is not as large as the open systems, so the desire is to look
for a "one size fits all" solution.

So for tape - what should I be looking at?

For dasd what should I also be looking at?

Between my data centers I need do to replication (they are about 1500 miles
apart) and back each other up for DASD and hopefully tape as well

Are there any other vendors other than
Fujitsu CS Eternus, IBM TS7700/8700, Luminex, EMC VMAX

So long as I have no need for tape to be shipped, I am thinking tapeless is
an acceptable solution.

Any other guidance is appreciated.

Lizette
