I would imagine that most PC routines would establish recovery and gracefully terminate with a "something bad was passed to me" RC+RSN for instances like this.
Perhaps forcing a well-known abend+rsn with a COND=NO style call might be better - maybe a flavour of STORAGE OBTAIN or IARV64 ?
