Don, As Kirk pointed out, you can determine that information from the Format 1 DSCB in the VTOC.
If you have MVS/QuickRef installed there, the DSNLIST report that it produces indicates LARGE or BASIC or Extended Format as appropriate for data sets on each DASD volume in the report.
