No need for neither warm or cold start. Just drain it and vary the device offline. And remove it from JES2 parm. If you want to be certain, you can do a JES2 hot start ($PJES2,ABEND, reply END, start JES2). Though I wouldn't do a hot start in a production environment, even though I never had problems with it.
