It does no good for us to quote the HSM Storage Administration manual back to you. You need to tell us what part of the explanation in the SETSYS chapter you are having trouble with.
But just to start the ball rolling, are you aware that if you have not specified ADDVOL commands to define dump tapes then SPECIFIC has no affect? Are you aware that the parameter applies only to EOV situations and not to the allocation of an initial tape? (These are from the 1.11 manual.
