Assuming that there is a good business case to specify CCSID for a traditional
data set (ie not a Unix path and file), I imagine that would need a new JCL
keyword on the DD statement to specify it. After all, under the covers SYSOUT
is just a data set for all intents and purposes, it just has a related
subsystem.

In turn, this would have implications way beyond the JES and SDSF development
teams.

You are always welcome to raise an "idea" with IBM to suggest it as these
things always have more significance when coming from customers with a good
business case.

Conway's Law.

I have tagged UNIX files with various CCSIDs, even UTF-8, and ISPF
3.17 View displays them correctly, limited by the terminal character
set.

why don't the JES people and SDSF people talk to the OMVS people
and learn how it can be done?
