My Secondary VMAX (Dev and Test) is Snapping the Replicated data
I have weekly backups to Tape
I have DFHSM doing backups/ML2 tapes are shipped to secondary site.
So do I have overkill? .
As usual, we should stat from the basics:
- budget constraints
- business needs
- RTO, RPO
- uwanted events: disaster, HW failure, SW error, human mistake, other
(human/terrorist attack, whatever)
- coincidence of events, disaster diameter (area affected)
- staffing
- other systems (there are no mainframe-only shops nowadays)
IMHO in case of 2 datacenters the reasonable scenario should look like:
- 2 VMAXes with SRDF/S or /A (matter of distance, performance needs and
disaster diameter)
- 2 tape systems, one per datacenter, all tapes duplicated (offline copy
for human and SW errors, number of copies/generations depends)
