When you say "XMIT-format", do you mean (what I would refer to as) NETDATA?
I ask, being a novice w/r/t most MVS things.
Thanks.

Dear Folks,
I would like to advertise a great improvement that Greg Price has
put into the REVIEW (free file browser) TSO command.
REVIEW can now automatically expand XMIT-format files and show you
(immediately, without needing to do a RECEIVE) what is in them. You
can see all the members in clear text (if source) and you can see all
the executable load modules (if it is a load library). This is a
great time saver. No RECEIVE is necessary. Just REVIEW the
XMIT-format file, and you can see the expansion (as a copy) in all its
glory. REVIEW is also good for sequential files that are in XMIT
format, and not necessarily FB-80.
REVIEW is a free program on the CBT Tape collection
(www.cbttape.org). REVIEW source is on CBT File 134, and all the load
modules are in File 135, so to install REVIEW, you just have to go to
CBT File 135 and copy all the REV**** members together with their
aliases. REVIEW doesn't change any data, when it is in "browse
mode". It is just a very powerful way to LOOK AT data. (REVIEW does
have a way to update data. If you type UPDATE on the command line,
you will get into an ISPF-like file editor, that runs in TSO READY
mode with or without ISPF (so you can easily fix ISPF if it doesn't
come up).
I hope this will be very helpful to people. REVIEW in many ways
is better than ISPF BROWSE. For example, if you have a keyed
sequential dataset, such as SYS1.BRODCAST, REVIEW will show you the
whole thing--the one-byte key and the 129 bytes of data. ISPF BROWSE
on the other hand, will only show you the first 129 bytes, and will
leave off the last data byte, so you can't see it. This could be very
crucial when dealing with such a dataset. It is very helpful to have
REVIEW in your arsenal of tools. NOT APF-authorized.....!!!! Install
it and keep it around. Also look at RFE (REVIEW Front End).
Be well. All the best of everything to everybody.
Sincerely, Sam
