The place I was buying through at the time had a minimum purchase of two shares of whatever you wanted to buy and you had to buy a total minimum of (I think) 20 shares of "stuff" or you had to pay a higher fee. I'm basically cheap, so I took the lowest number and picked 10 companies to buy shares of. I got some Microsoft, SUN, CalComp, Wang, DEC, and a few others, about 1/2 of them went out of business or were bought out by other companies. The ones that didn't go out of business have gone up by many times the purchase price. I think my total investment at the time was about $150. Now a single share of IBM is more than that.
Back then you also got the actual certificates and most of them paid dividends every year. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
