Hi Rob, I had a short presentation on it (with other topics) if you wanted to know a little more at a higher level. You can find the proceedings from that session here: https://www.slideshare.net/slideshow/finer-things-club-lesser-known-zosmf-sw-mgmt-functionspdf/265160796
In a nutshell: when used as directed, it allows us to programmatically retrieve with confidence, the name of the SMP/E CSI that represents the **running z/OS system**. Once you know that UUID, you can do pretty much any queries on that software inventory that was deployed. (Note: this is only for z/OS systems and does not cover middleware or other program producs, unless exploited by them. UUIDs are provided and can be used by any software instance, but the realtime retrieval of these UUIDs must be exploited by the software itself. ) The sample that sets it up in LPA is provided within the z/OSMF Portable Software Instance POSTDEPLOY workflow. -Marna WALLE z/OS System Install and Upgrade IBM Poughkeepsie ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
