I'd expect redirection to succeed in such as:
    //STEP  EXEC  PGM=BPXBATCH,PARM='SH /bin/cat </et/services'

Redirection, and symbol evaluation, mentioned earlier in this thread,
are both shell facilities, available only if BPXBAtCH invokes a shell.

The more relevant question is, "Why/ doesn't BPXBATCH allow 
instream STDIN?" as both AOPBATCH and BPXWUNIX do.

Would a DSFS path to a JES spool file work?
