Since you mentioned "ls /+", I assume that you are using Co:Z SFTP Server.
WSFTP is a pain, mostly since it starts new sessions for transfers when it really shouldn't, which breaks session-level options. If you want to use it with Co:Z SFTP, the easiest way to set options is to use a user-specific configuration file.
