The non-profit Rexx Language Association (https://www.rexxla.org) organizes the yearly International
Rexx Symposiums. This year, it will be held again in Europe, in Barcelona, Spain, from Sunday, May
3rd, through Wednesday, May 6th. Sunday afternoon is usually the tutorial afternoon followed by the
first get together of the Rexx symposium attendees in the evening.
The call for presentations/papers explicitly solicits presentations for using any of the Rexx family
of programming languages /and Rexx on the mainframe/. So, please consider submitting a proposal for
the symposium to benefit the community.
If you do not submit a proposal but are still interested in attending the conference, please do not
hesitate to do so. Barcelona is one of the most famous cities in Europe, making it also interesting
to visit all its historical sites and experience its cultural wealth. Barcelona boasts a
comprehensive public transportation system, allowing one to reach almost any corner of the city by
public means.

As in the past, one can expect very interesting presentations that will provide new insights and
developments in Rexx.

Dear RexxLA Member,
I would like to draw your attention to the following:
(1) The 37th International Rexx Symposium (IRS2026) will be held as a live
conference May 3-6, 2026 in Barcelona, Catalunya, Spain.
The conference aims at bringing together experts in software engineering with
the special emphasis on the Rexx family of languages (Rexx, ooRexx, NetRexx,
BRexx, Executor, cRexx). The themes this year are (a) addressing Rexx solutions
to business problems, (b) application development challenges, (c) Rexx language
enhancements and extensions, (d) novel Rexx programming concepts, and (e) the
design and implementation of Rexx interpreters and compilers.
The aim of the conference is to cover the full range of modern Rexx platforms
and environments, from the mainframe to the desktop to the phone, and from
legacy operating systems to Linux to Java.
Presentations and papers in the following topic areas are of particular
interest:
* Novel, clever, or interesting problem solutions using ooRexx, NetRexx or
Classic Rexx
* Rexx interfaces to open-source software systems such as Java,
Python, OpenOffice/LibreOffice, Linux, etc.
* Cross-platform integration/automation
* Mainframe, large-scale, or mission-critical Rexx applications
* ANSI Standard-compliant extensions to Rexx interpreters
* Deploying Rexx applications on unusual or diverse platforms
* Multi- and cross-platform applications
* Rapid prototyping in Rexx
* Designing Rexx applications for performance and portability
* Procedural and O-O Rexx interpreters, compilers, and libraries
* Using Rexx with other technologies such as telephony and wireless
* Re-hosting legacy Rexx applications
* Applications that use Rexx as a scripting or macro language
* Status of current Rexx language processor implementations
Attendees will range from those who are relatively new to Rexx to authors of
Rexx language processors and texts.
Presentations are requested at all audience levels.
(2) Session Proposals
Session proposals should include the following:
• presenter's name and email address
• session title (fewer than 10 words)
• session abstract (fewer than 100 words)
• presentation type (introductory, tutorial, practitioner, advanced)
• author/presenter's biographical note (fewer than 100 words)
• special scheduling/duration or audio/visual/connectivity requirements
Sessions are one hour long, but alternative durations can be accommodated on
request.
Speakers should allow ample time for questions and demonstrations.
Presentation and formal paper proposals must be submitted by email to
[email protected]
In order to be included in The Proceedings of the Rexx Symposium for Developers and Users(ISSN
1534-8954), a publication-ready version of the presentation or paper (preferably in PDF) must be
received by February 28th, 2026.
Best Regards,
René Vincent Jansen,
