Hi Gregg,

We're not using IPCONN for our CTG, we're apparently using ECI. IBM-in-the-sky
told us (at 3:00 this morning) that ECI version 1 only supports 8 character
passwords. ECI version 2 increased that all the way to 10. They said we need
to switch to IPIC. So I guess I got my question answered and more work to do
to move to PPs.

Thanks,

Rex

Subject: CICS and CICS Transaction Gateway question

Cross posting this to both IBM-main and the CICS list.

We are running CICS 5.6, and CTG 9.2.0.2 on a Windows platform. This setup is
used to transfer requests/replies from/to a Windows based browser application
with WebSphere Application Server (also on Windows) sitting in the middle. It
is working fine, we're seeing the requests come in and the CICS responses flow
back to the browser. However, we're heading down the path of setting up
passphrases and this is where we are running into issues. When the end user
comes in with a passphrase, the request appears like it doesn't even hit the
mainframe. The error we're seeing in WebSphere is this:

CTG9631E Error occurred during an interaction with CICS:
ECI_ERR_SECURITY_ERROR, error code: -27.

We opened a ticket with CTG support and the response we got back was that we're
running a back level version of CICS, and their "supporting documentation" said
we needed to upgrade to CICS 4.1. Yes we had already told them we're running
5.6. From what I've found, CTG 9202 also supports passphrases. My developer
testing this successfully logs directly onto CICS using a phrase on green
screen so CICS doesn't look like it's the problem.

So my question(s) is/are:

Is anybody running a similar setup: CICS5.x, CTG 9.2.x.x on WAS on Windows?
If so, are you using passwords or phrases?
If you're using phrases, did you have to do anything different in CICS to work
with phrases?
Any suggestions as to where we could look for clues?

TIA,

Rex
