I just went thru this on one of my accountsas part of ZOS 3.1 upgrade from ZOS 2.5 - you should also compare sizes after the utility creates to ensure the new couple datasets are equal or larger than prior ones. Using SETXCF to set alternate and switch to primary works pretty slick once you get hang of it...
