Hi Bob, Thanks, this is exactly the type of information I was looking for. We IPL monthly and since our /tmp is in a TFS, it is recreated at every IPL. We have nothing specifically creating this directory so I had no idea how the javasharedresources directory was created or why the permission bits were different.

The first process that needs the directory creates and owns it. The permission bits are set depending on that process' umask, which is often 0022, so the bits get set to 0755. As other processes come online that need to create subdirectories under this directory, they are blocked from doing so because of the permission bit. I recommend you include the following commands in /etc/rc so that at system startup the directory is created if not already present and the permission bits are set to allow any process to create a subdirectory, but only the creator/owner of each such subdirectory can delete it. mkdir /tmp/javasharedresources chmod 1777 /tmp/javasharedresources Regards, Bob Robert S.
