I have been working on a java interface to the GIMAPI SMP/E query functions.
I've just put up a beta version, if people are interested in testing it.

It's very easy to use. Queries are typically 5-10 lines of code and
return the results in java collections so you can use all the java
filtering, sorting etc functions to process the results. Current java
versions can run simple programs from source, so it's easy to create
small scripts etc. to query SMP/E.

I'm interested to get feedback and comments. If you have examples of
information you would like to get from SMP/E let me know and I can add
more samples.
