Well, Atalla hasn't been independent for a very long time, but yeah. I personally went through: - Voltage Security - HP - HPE - Micro Focus - OpenText ...all in the same job. And so I definitely understand when others--even the tech press--can't keep 'em straight! But the Utimaco folks seem quite good. I say that having worked with them on our support for their hardware even after the split (as recently as this year).
Without naming names, I also built relationships with a number of HSM vendors so we could support their hardware--even PKCS#11 isn't 100% standardized, so you really need to test each one. Several were VERY hard to get ahold of, though ultimately I did manage to do so. Big Company Syndrome, I suspect. ...phsiii -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Radoslaw Skorupka Sent: Tuesday, August 4, 2026 12:20 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: HSM units vendors That's the point. We know Atalla, but... it is no longer independent company. Move from HPE (HP, Compaq, Tandem) to Utimaco, but also MicroFocus in the middle - so it's even hard to follow. Atalla is just one of several, other products/companies were also merged, etc. -- Radoslaw Skorupka Lodz, Poland W dniu 04.08.2026 o 13:49, Phil Smith III pisze: > Yes, Utimaco bought Atalla from HPE in 2016 or so but is alive and well. > > On August 4, 2026 4:17:21 AM Frank Swarbrick > <[email protected]> wrote: > >> Atalla (now Utimaco Atalla, I guess) is still in the HSM business as >> far as I am aware. >> Frank >> >> ________________________________ >> From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List <[email protected]> on >> behalf of Radoslaw Skorupka >> <[email protected]> >> Sent: Sunday, July 26, 2026 6:25 AM >> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> >> Subject: HSM units vendors >> >> In reference to the recent discussion about cryptography, a question >> occurred to me: >> what are current HSM vendors? >> Obviously IBM and CryptoExpress family (also available on distributed >> systems as PCIe card). >> Thales series 10000 (previously Racal, AFAIR) >> ... >> what else? >> >> >> Regards >> -- >> Radoslaw Skorupka >> Lodz, Poland >> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
