The gap between Tom's views and mine is perhaps smaller than I had thought.
I had supposed that my words "and this is formally correct" would suffice to make it clear that I conceded, if that be the right word, that alternatives to the use of DSAs are available. They did not, and I should perhaps have expanded upon them. The focus of my post was upon what I judged to be good practices; that of Tom's was upon what he judged, correctly, to be licit. These different emphases yield, as a practical matter, different views; and I hope everyone now understands what these differences are.
