Assumption: you want to attach the library to z/OS system.
In this case *forget about LTO*. The list of supported (by z/OS) tape
drives are very short:
- IBM 3592 family
- STK/Sun/Oracle T1000 and 9840 family
- obsolete drives from the vendors above no longer marketed (MAGSTAR,
9940, etc.)
- virtual tape libraries.
There si no way to (directly) attach LTO drive to the z/OS.
Caution: you can attach LTO to the mainframe and use it for Linux.
Now about LTO:
LTO6 drive will read and write LTO5 tapes and it will read LTO4 tapes.
LTO5 drive will not accept LTO6 tapes.
BTW: there is no compatibility between LTOn and 3592 drives and carts.
BTW2: there is ROBOT compatibility - the same gripper and he same
shelves are used for both kinds of tapes.
