You must set the volume DIS,NEW to prevent any new allocations to it.

Subject: Using DFDSS to move multi volume SMS managed datasets.

I need to free up a volume from a storage group but the volume contains
several multi volume DB2 datasets. I thought I would be able to remove
the volume concerned from the storage group and then do a dataset copy
and delete but DFDSS doesn't like that because part of the dataset is
now SMS managed and part is not. Fair enough. If I leave the volume
concerned as SMS managed and try to do the dataset copy and delete, will
DFDSS do the move and move the datasets to the other volumes in the
storage group without trying to move the datasets to the original volume
or will it consider that volume fair game as it is part of the storage
group.

I hope that is clearer than mud.
