I don't "champion" Open Source on z/OS because I need to keep my job (don't want to take up bank robbery like the govt of Cyprus) . But I will use it. But I _won't_ be allowed to put it into production. There is a reason. We don't have the capacity to support it. And we don't have the money to buy support. We have even stopped using, as much as possible, any sort of customization of products which require writing code.
On a personal front, I am an FSF associate member. I have a Linux/Intel desktop at work (along with the Windows one). At home, I have 4 Linux/Intel machines (2 desktop, 1 laptop, 1 netbook), a MacMini, and one Windows laptop (required in order to remote into work due to the way that the Windows people set things up to be useless without it). BTW, the "dark side" is MS-Windows with Apple being a wannabe.
