Such estimates are not valid for BC machines since they are released long after their EC counterparts but are withdrawn at the same time.
The last time I looked at this was for z10 BC. The machine came out 4Q08 and MES upgrades for all z10s were withdrawn 3 1/2 years later at the end of 2Q12.
If that pattern continues, I would expect to see MES upgrades for z12s withdrawn at the end of 2Q17.
