On the Antique Road show(PBS) one Queen Anne sideboard was appraised at
several thousand dollars. The appraiser went on to say "if it hadn't been
refinished it would be worth over a hundred thousand".

The hardware advances coupled with the hundreds of new instructions allow
z/OS to progress and evolve.
In Dr Webb's rollout paper for the G6/Z6 he points to the use of 62%
commonality and addition of cache strategies to accomplish thruput
improvements
mated with z/OS instruction set on a base processor with 176,000,000
transistors. These are not trivial pursuits. The Global Foundries fabrication
center is a multi-billion facility with continual updates and modifications.

Guess my point is for all it's warts and wrinkles z/OS is here and
evolving as it carries a large workload for Fortune 500 companies.
