We use it extensively. it performs well. it has _never_ been the cause of an
outage. it can drive up CPU usage more than native VSAM, of course. We use the
automatic SYNC processing to decrease the "lockout" time for massive updates.
It was initially acquired for "emergency use only to avoid a CICS outage". It
is now almost de regueur for any access to a CICS VSAM data set, other than
reorg backups.

The minus? It works so well that management regards it as a good replacement
for any type of SQL database system. So we remain stuck on VSAM while the rest
of the company and world is progressing to advanced data storage. It also gives
our end users the idea that z/OS is incapable of easy to use data access.
