Shai, I'd hazard a guess that shops using some type of thin provisioning would simply make the volume the maximum size supported by the controller, even if the planned to just put the JES2 Checkpoint on the volume.
In this case a 10 CYL dataset on a 262K CYL volume is not a problem, or a waste.
