I haven't proven it yet but I believe the poster (was it Radoslaw?) that
mentioned checking all addressing for conflicts hit the issue.

I took the defaults for the IPV6 addresses - how long have I been doing this? -
and it might be a bad idea. Both LAN interfaces assume the hardware address
when you do that. I highly suspect that when the primary and secondary SEs
switch roles and the SEs for some reason use the IPV6 addresses instead of the
IPV4 addresses that you specified you wind up with some conflict that screws up
the connections (like your NTP) if you specified IPV4 addressing destinations.

I plan on switching back and seeing if that fixes things, then I'm going to
change one digit on one IPV6 address and switch again to see what transpires.
It'll be a bit, though, process and lead times intrude.

Subject: HMC and SE network configuration - detailed setup and debugging
documentation?

I'm trying to figure out a slightly vexing issue with SE to HMC connectivity
from one of the four CECs on the floor.

One of the LAN adapters on one SE does not seem to be functioning, I walked
through the physical connectivity with one of the network infrastructure people
here and all follows through, appears active and seems set up as documented.

SOO access to the SE from the HMCs works fine.

Testing the Support Element Connectivity IPV4 address from the HMC is
confusing: it pings, starts a session but return connection from the SE times
out.

The issue is reaching the HMC IPV4 addresses from the SE, which causes problems
reaching the HMC as the NTP server in our mode of configuration from the CECs.

I've compared the SE configurations of a CEC that works with the one that
doesn't, seeing nothing I am now looking for some kind of decent documentation
on configuration and troubleshooting of the HMC to SE network. So far I
haven't found anything that is any more than pretty basic. Anybody have
information on what manuals contain some kind of in depth information on the
subject?

Thanks...
