Just to close the loop: The owners of the COD re-tested and found some
errors of omission in the instructions (most notably, at least to me,
that Load/Clear is required, not just Load). All new CODs should
include updated instructions.
A high percentage of CODs are now shipped on DVD, and it seems that most
people use Load/Clear, so it seems that's why we hadn't noticed before.
This would also apply, of course, to procedures you might write to
support DR activity based on using DFSMSdss standalone RESTORE from tape.
It's also worth noting that the traditional "old one-two punch" of
putting a copy of standalone ICKDSF in File 1 and a copy of standalone
DFSMSdss in File 2 of the very first tape you use for DR is no longer
needed as of z/OS V1.13. Standalone DFSMSdss no longer requires a prior
INIT. All you need now is a current copy of standalone DFSMSdss.
I seem to have neglected to get this into the announcement. My
apologies to everyone, including the DFSMSdss team (who actually
implemented that function at my request, making this omission
particularly embarassing).
