David's point is the important one. A lot of IBM DSECTs have been restated in COBOL, frozen as is (and undocumented).
This short of thing should be done in assembly [or PL /.X] for which the appropriate IBM--maintained mapping macros and code are available. The use of REDEFINES is also rather quaint in a routine that already uses pointers in this way. Old habits apparently die hard.
