I just could not see going to management and asking for it (I don't
remember the cost but in was in the $450 range for both IIRC)
We were CPU poor even though we had the (then) largest boxes from IBM
and everything was looked at up and down for CPU usage before it was
purchased.
Getting back to the recent thread that we really ran 100 percent cpu
utilization 7 days a week. About the only time we didn't was
Christmas when we shut down the computers.
Other places I have worked over the last 20 years it was more
uncommon for the system to dip below 100 and that happened only
before production kicked off at 6 PMish and that was for 20 minutes
for the job scheduler to kick in. 100 percent in my world is
absolutely common.
