With the brief passage of time (Liberty, z/OS Management Facility, z/OS Connect, CICS TS 5.x, WOLA, etc.), we now know. Moreover, Liberty and WAS for z/OS exploit z/OS in various important and useful ways. Also, WAS CE was/is available on Linux on z. That said, the original question was about Apache Geronimo, and the direct answer to the question is that, yes, Geronimo runs on z/OS, and some number of z/OS customers run it.
