While my shorter test case certainly contained characters in that bunch,
I doubt that was the cause of the FTP error, since Bill Godfrey's suggestion
to add a trailing NL removed the error.  My longer test case failed even
with a trailing NL while containing no code points absent from the shorter.

FTP may be WAD; I'd say BAD.
