On VSAM I suspect it's 32K-7 bytes. The 7 for a CIDF (for the CI) and a RDF (for the one record you could stuff into a 32K CI).

X means LRECL>32760. d) to allocate first new PS dataset with LRECL=32676 a trick is needed.
