That's fine. It's well-defined that the binary file is in EBCDIC, uses big-endian 4-byte integers etc. Thus any EBCDIC text will be run through this code: http://mvs380.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/mvs380/mvssrc/ozpd/c/febc.c?view=markup in order to be portable.
