Additional Information:

The HSMPDO datasets are expected to be re-used by DFhsm. The HSMPDOX/Y datasets
are toggled  as needed.
I would allocate them a some specific size w/no secondary extents. When HSMPDOX
is filled, HSM will automatically switch to HSMPDOY.
When HSMPDOY is filled, HSM will automatically switch back to HSMPDOX.

Yes. From the Fine Manual: "DFSMShsm Implementation and Customization Guide
Version 2 Release 1   PP 41-42_ SC23-6869-01 (z/OS 2.1)"

Storage guidance:
Both the ARCPDOX and ARCPDOY data sets must be on the same volume.
The amount and type of storage you use for your PDA log data sets depends on
how much trace history you want to keep. To determine the amount and type of
storage, you can use either the short-term work sheet found in “Problem
determination aid log data set size work sheet—Short-term trace history” on
page 388 or the long-term work sheet found in “Problem determination aid log
data set size work sheet—Long-term trace history” on page 390.

I doubt this is a new requirement. It has most likely been there for eons…

<snip>
Do both the HSM.HSMPDOXC & HSM.HSMPDOyC have to reside on the same volume?
