For it to start working would be unusual. Did an IPL occur? Did someone activate the SCDS? Did someone do a TRANSLATE/TEST/ACTIVATE?
Trying to debug SMS code is an art. And usually very specific to the shop. Without seeing the code or define statements would make it very difficult for the list to isolate any failures.
