To me a character is a character, thus a "hexadecimal character" would be one
of {C'a', ..., C'f', C'A', ..., C'F', C'0', ..., C'9' }. Why not "... 255 bytes
long, and can contain bytes of any value, i.e. x'00' to x'FF'"
