After several decades of using MVS I finally ran into a case where I
thought GDS/GDG versioning might be useful and used it  to create a
corrected version of a GDS generation using V01 to make it obvious it
was a corrected version.

It is also useful when you want/need to move the file to another device type. I had a case, years ago, when we wanted to move from tape reel media to cartridges and the files needed to be kept for a significant period of time (past when we wanted to retire the tape reel device. By copying the Tape Reel V00 to a Cartridge as V01 we had the file remain as a GDG in its proper relative number.
