I believe it is only possible WITHOUT downtime if you are have a CEC that is multibook, and then when they do the change, that entire book comes offline, and removed, reducing your processing capacity during that time. We had the procedure done a processor or two ago.

We were told by IBM that we couldn't add memory, with our without downtime to the z10. In fact, we were warned by a number of people, both inside and outside IBM not to do that. It's why we went to the z12. I concur with Kees if you really can get memory and if it's already defined and reserved in your profile, then it's just a matter of activating it. Same as with a CPU.
