I believe it is only possible WITHOUT downtime if you are have a CEC that is
multibook, and then when they do the change, that entire book comes offline,
and removed, reducing your processing capacity during that time. We had the
procedure done a processor or two ago.

Really? We were told by IBM that we couldn't add memory, with our without
downtime to the z10. In fact, we were warned by a number of people, both inside
and outside IBM not to do that. It's why we went to the z12.

I concur with Kees if you really can get memory and if it's already defined and
reserved in your profile, then it's just a matter of activating it. Same as
with a CPU. You can't just change the profile to include memory you never had.

Do you want to add memory to the z10 or to the LPAR?
The first is possible without downtime, the second only if you have configured
reserved memory in the LPAR profile definition.

Kees.

Subject: Adding Real memory Dyanamically

Hello,

We are having z10 box with z/OS 2.1 LPAR running. Is it possible to add a Real
Memory Dynamically without any outage.

I am searching for Real Memory addition dynamically but I am not getting hit
especially for z10 box.

Any Suggestions ?

Nathan
