I'm not sure why everyone (or almost everyone) has assumed Venkat asked about *processor* capacity planning specifically. Quoting Venkat, he asked about "mainframe hardware capacity planning and sizing." That includes memory, storage, I/O, processors (including core counts, PCIs, and specialty engines such as Coupling Facilities), processor features (e.g. cryptography), accelerators (e.g. the IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator), machine and LPAR counts, and even perhaps data center-related factors such as space, power, cooling considerations, cabling, and floor loading -- planning and sizing the cooling requirements for mainframe hardware installations, for example. And I might only be scratching the surface.
Venkat, you've asked an *extremely* general question here -- broader than even most respondents have assumed. What part or parts of these fairly gigantic topics are you most interested in? What are your goals? Please give us a few clues, at least. You've asked a question in this forum that would be roughly similar to asking "How does life work?" in a biology forum. :-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy Sipples IT Architect Executive, Industry Solutions, IBM z Systems, AP/GCG/MEA E-Mail: [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
