Description:
============
It is possible to limit both the "width" and "depth" of the ISPF editor
F(ind), C(jange) and (e)X(clude) commands, by specifying bounds and labels.
Of these two, the bounds ("width") can be set using the "BOUNDS" primary
and/or "BNDS" line commands, and once set it will remain in force until
changed.
However, there is no mechanism to limit the operation of the above commands
for a "depth" range, other than to specify the line-labels on which the
commands need to operate again and again, or eXclude all lines not of
interest and use the NX operand of the above commands.
What is proposed is that an additional Edit/View command is added that
allows the user to set the vertical bounds to two user-defined labels, as
in "VB(ound) .a .b". All subsequent Find. Change. and eXclude commands
would then be limited to operating on just the lines between inclusive the
.A and .B labels, without the user having to respecify them over and over
again.
A "VB(ound) RES(et)" would reset this mode, as would the "RES(et) LAB(el)"
command, or even the "RES(et)" command all by itself.
Use case:
=========
It's pretty common to perform a number of Find, Change and/or eXclude
commands on a small set of lines in the editor. The addition of the
proposed "VB(ound)" command would make it easier to perform these
operations without having to respecify the range over and over again.
