I think you're not grasping what I asked, but perhaps my terminology is 
not clear. By "shared-common" I meant REQUEST=GETSHARED (to be used 
subsequently with REQUEST=SHAREMEMOBJ). That is quite different from 
REQUEST=GETCOMMON. AFFINITY has a lot of relevance to "shared".

You seem to like the term "require the specification of". It is surely not 
correct here, because that eliminates the case of "or is implicitly asked 
for by letting it default".
I would tend to use "is in effect" rather than "require the specification 
of". But here it is perhaps trying to say something like "applies for ... 
only".
I'm checking with the developer as to what the behavior of AFFINITY is for 
REQUEST=GETCOMMON -- how does "letting it default" differ from specifying 
AFFINITY=SYSTEM,V64COMMON=YES
