—————————————————SNIP————————————————————— No… but I have “inherited” other peoples COBOL programs that did use ALTER extensively (How many in the order of 200 of say 8,000 cobol source). Granted this was 30+ years ago. I dreaded the call the one of these monsters blew up as I knew I was in for a long night of debugging. Not one of the programs used your constructs *AND* I was not a COBOL programmer. These programs were extremely complicated *AND* were not well documented. What should have been a half hour of debugging turned into several hours. I can’t remember specifics as it was 35 years ago but trying to match up source to memory was hair raising (this caused a premature gray hair add to that 20++ years in sysproging I should have been bald. Oh yes and the alcohol. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
